As I probably mentioned before, Rin has been taking English horse riding lessons since last fall, toughing it out through the winter and still loving it. Milla asked if she could try it out for the summer. Happy to give any outdoor opportunity to my writer and bookworm, she is giving it a try. This pic is at the first lesson. If you look closely you can see that Milla is in the western saddle (as it has the horn to hold onto it is more comfortable for beginners) and Catherine is in English. Milla really enjoyed herself, despite the flies, and even was able to do a little posting (the kind of rhythmic bouncing done in a trot). Catherine was stellar at this lesson, I think wanting to show her big sister all that she could do. She was able to keep 'No-no' her horse right on the rail but still keep her balanced in a steady trot, straight back, hands up. She is finally feeling ready to try her first horse show in Aug/Sept.
Rin has been at horse camp all day all this week. Never have I seen this girl fall a sleep at 6 on the couch, until now. They've been doing horse 'races' (going around cones and such), learning more about horse care/ vet things and other horse info, swimming, washing the ponies, and of course, just getting some good hang out time with their favorite animals and other girls that they have lessons with. Good times.
